1956 - 2017
Mark Edward Cowart, 60, of Marlborough, Massachusetts, passed away suddenly on April 19, 2017. Mark was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 1, 1956, the fifth of eight children. He graduated from West Chicago Community High School in 1974 and received an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts from Joliet Junior College. Mark spent many years in the hotel industry as a chef and catering manager. He later started a contracting business, specializing in home remodeling. Mark did extensive work on homes in the Boston area and was always available to assist on his family's homes across the country. Mark never lost his passion for food and loved to cook for his friends and family. He created many unique wedding cakes to celebrate special occasions. His sense of humor was contagious. Mark loved the Chicago Cubs, the Patriots, the Red Sox and pretty much anything Boston. He enjoyed traveling and hiking, especially trips into the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire. An avid Civil War buff, Mark studied and visited many historic sites and battlefields. Most of all, Mark loved being a Mason. With eight years of service, he achieved the level of Master Mason and Scottish Rite. He served his lodge as The Tyler and as Junior Deacon. Mark took great pride in the community service of his lodge and the brotherhood with his fellow Masons. Mark is survived by his longtime partner, Carol Westerman, his sons, Joshua and Adam, and a large and loving family of 4 sisters - Connie Clark, Peggy Solum, Carol Anderson, Lisa Minter; 3 brothers - Michael Chesterfield, Richard Cowart, Brian Cowart; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and lifelong friend, Mike Duray. He was a mentor to many of this younger family members. Mark was preceded in death by his son, Andrew and his parents, Oriece S. and Phyllis C. (Roelle) Cowart. Mark's memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, April 30th at the United Brethren Lodge of Marlborough, 8 Newton Street, Marlborough, Massachusetts. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm on April 30th and a reception will follow the service. The John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main Street, Marlborough, MA is in care of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Brethren Lodge Angel Fund, 8 Newton Street, Marlborough, MA 01752.
