DR.  MATTHEW M. MEYER Obituary
Dr Matthew M Meyer 90, passed on August 27, 2018 after a courageous battle with Dementia at GreenFields Geneva, IL, where he resided for 4 years. He was born in Fredricksburg, PA, to Elizabeth Miller Meyer and Samuel G Meyer. Matt graduated from Hershey High School (PA), Elizabethtown College (PA), Bethany Theological Seminary (then in Chicago), and earned a Doctor of Religion degree from Claremont (CA) School of Theology. Matt was ordained to the ministry in the Church of the Brethren in 1956. He had pastorates in Glendale, CA; Naperville, IL; and Martinsburg, PA. He also served the church at the denominational level at the headquarters in Elgin, IL as Director of Evangelism and as Annual Conference Manager. He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Hileman) of 34 years, children, Mark of CA, Daniel (Lori) of SC and Sally Medearis (Matthew) of Hampshire, IL, grandchildren Matthew, Michelle, Michael, Deborah, and Kathryn, great-grandchildren Lillianna and Billy. Also surviving are a brother, Sam (Casey) of Salem, VA; and a sister, Marian (Walter) Schell of Williamsport, PA. He was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara (Nelson), his parents and 5 older siblings. He enjoyed and excelled in many activities in addition to his career in the field of ministry, some of which are accomplished musician, painter, writer, and sports enthusiast, especially golf and ping pong. He felt privileged to have been a Seagoing Cowboy with in 1946. A celebration of life will be held at the Highland Ave. Church of the Brethren, 783 W Highland, Elgin, IL on September 22, 11 am, with a reception following. Memorials may be given to , Little Rock, AR or Highland Ave. Church of the Brethren.
