CARPENTERSVILLE - Robert J. Christensen, Sr., age 87, passed away on Tuesday evening, April 25, 2017 at Highland Oaks in Elgin. Bob was born on June 19, 1929 in Elmwood Park and was the son of the late Harry and Mary (nee Lascody) Christensen. On October 16, 1954 Bob married the love of his life Barbara J. Marsch. Barbara preceded Bob in death on June 11, 1996 after 41 years of marriage. Bob was a resident of Carpentersville for the past 57 years, a very proud Korean War United States Marine Corps Veteran and a member of Carpentersville VFW Post 5915. He was a glass glazier by profession and a member of the Glass Glaziers Union Local #27. Bob was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Carpentersville. Survivors include his sons: Robert J. Jr. (Gail) and Lt. Col. David L. (Kerry) Christensen, USAF, Ret. Other survivors include his grandchildren; Madeline (Lucas) Wood, Taryn Christensen and Keenan Christensen. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife; Barbara, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers; Harry and Chuck and sisters; Millie and Virginia. Family and Friends will gather for a Funeral Mass on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Monica Church in Carpentersville with Rev. Carlos Monsalve, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Dundee Township East Cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass.
