Obituary Condolences

Robert R. "Bob" Thompson passed away July 27, 2018 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. He was 89. Bob was born in Cincinnati, OH to Nuebert R. And Alice L. Thompson. He graduated from Western Hills High School, Cincinnati, OH in 1947. While attending Freshman Latin class he met his wife and lifelong partner, Marjorie L. Schmidt. Bob began engineering studies at the University of Cincinnati until entering the Navy in 1951 the same year he married Marjorie. A proud Veteran of the Korean War, he was a fighter pilot (Corsair) flying sorties off the USS Boxer. Bob went on to fly commercially as a Captain for TWA (747 International) retiring after 34 years of service. He remained active in the Navy Reserves serving at NAS Glenview until 1989. Piloting planes was his lifelong passion and he loved sharing his knowledge of all things flying. Bob cherished traditions and took advantage of many reunions and various get-togethers with his Navy Squadron CVG-2 VF-63 and his fellow TWA pilots. He also enjoyed leisure travel with his wife, was an avid reader and was game for classic comedy and classic movies. Bob is preceded in death by his daughter Linda J. Royster. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marjorie, his 3 daughters Gail, Sharon Groot (Doug), Diana and 2 sons Robert (Cindy), Thomas (Lisa), 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Carol Fries and many nieces and nephews. To most people the sky is the limit. To those who are pilots, the sky is home. Carpe Diem.
