1919 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Roy went to meet our mom, Irene, in heaven on March 21, 2018 at the age of 98. He was born in Chicago on August 19, 1919. Roy was a longtime resident of Mt. Prospect, still living in the house he purchased in 1952. He graduated from the University of Illinois and after ROTC served in WWII as a Captain in the Army. He earned his degree in Metallurgical Engineering and spent his career in that field with companies in the United States and Canada. He will be lovingly missed by daughter Carol (Larry) Decker of Plymouth, MN, son Roy W. (Nancy) of Richardson TX and "adopted" daughter Judy Gruber of Prospect Heights IL. He was proud to have 7 grandchildren: Dr. Todd (Julianne) Decker, Troy (Jaci) Decker, Ty (Cassie) Decker, Tanner (Lindsey) Decker, Jennifer nee Hardin (Michael) Marchesini, Dr. Daniel (Dr. Tara) Hardin, and Mark (Kim) Hardin, Judy Gruber's sons James (Tiffany) and Michael (Brianne). He had 20 great-grandchildren who knew him and loved him. He was blessed with wonderful neighbors on Owen Street. Dad had a passion for genealogy and had traced his and mom's roots back to the 1700's. He loved crossword puzzles, golf in his younger days, peppermints and being with family. Let's not forget his daily 5 pm old fashion made just a certain way. Private interment will be at Randhill on April 13. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for later this summer with family and friends. Arrangements entrusted to Friedrichs Funeral Home. Information, call 847-255-7800 or www.friedrichsfh.com.
