1920 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
GENEVA - Terry T. McConnaughay, 98, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 2, 1920 in Bluford, IL the son of James and Mary (Bowling) McConnaughay. Terry proudly served his country in the US Air Force during World War II in the European theatre and was decorated with the Bronze Medal for his dedicated service. He worked for Geneva Modern Kitchens for 25 years and was subsequently a co-founder, owner, and operator of Duralam Company in Elburn, a manufacturer of countertops and cabinets. An avid reader, Terry especially enjoyed studying about American history and the presidents. He took considerable pleasure applying that knowledge to his dedicated pursuit as a "successful" armchair Jeopardy player. He took great pride in his gardening and loved being outdoors, fishing at his cottage in northern Wisconsin. But his greatest joy came in the time spent with family and friends, often touring the country to visit them. In 1946, one year after his return from service overseas, Terry married Rocadella C. "Rockie" (Perrone), who preceded him in death. They had caught one another's eye four years earlier while serving in the wedding party of Rockie's sister, Mary, who was marrying Terry's brother, Glenn. Then came World War II, and Terry and Rockie corresponded for four years, a St. Charles guy serving far from home in Europe and the Geneva girl he asked to await his return. She asked for and received and engagement ring before his departure. Besides his beloved wife Rockie, he is preceded in death by the couple's eldest son, James, his parents and siblings, James O., Glenn, William, Norma Lundberg and Ronald. Terry is survived by a daughter-in-law, Peggy (James) of Grass Valley, CA; sons Dale (Catherine Ann) of White Cloud, MI, and Mark of Elgin; grandchildren Erin McConnaughay, Rebecca Bratcher, Brent McConnaughay and Bryce McConnaughay; great grandchildren Kate Lee, Jack Lang and Evan Bratcher; brother Paul (Lois) of Florida; a sister, Isabelle Fisher, also of Florida, and many dear nieces and nephews. A visitation for Terry will be held Sunday, August 12 from 1:00 pm until the time of a Celebration of Life service at 3:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva. Burial will be private at West Batavia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the , 1801 Meyers Road #100, Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181 or Northwestern Medicine Home Health and Hospice, 690 E. North Avenue, Carol Stream, IL 60188 would be appreciated. Information 630-232-8233 or visit malonefh.com.
