1923 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
WHEATON - Dr. Robert W. Johnson, age 90, passed gently on January 5, 2014 after a brief illness. Robert was born in San Diego, CA on August 21, 1923 to John and Marie Johnson. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1969, during which he received his Master's Degree in cinematography at USC, being the first Naval Officer to do so. Eventually earning the rank of Lieutenant Commander, he became Head of Administration for the Navy's Photographic Training Unit in Pensacola, FL from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1969. Robert and family moved to Glen Ellyn in 1970, becoming Coordinator of the fledgling Photography Department at College of DuPage. Affectionately known as "Dr. Bob," he brought the department national recognition, launching the careers of many future photographers. He earned his Doctorate in Education in 1977 and retired in 1994. Robert's passing is proceeded by his parents, wife Patricia (Pedler) Johnson and brother John Johnson Jr. He is survived by his wife Karen Johnson, children Judith (Root), Carol (Davis) and Scott and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Robert's life was an amazing journey of discovery, dedication, love, and devotion, and as he continues his journey, will be loved and missed by everyone whose life he touched. A Life Celebration will be held at Alberto's at The Holiday Inn, 150 S.
