Sweet Derek. Another birthday and we still miss you so much. Hard to believe that 38 years ago, you came into our lives and made us the happiest people in the world. We miss you so much and think about you every day. Your children bring light into our lives and we are grateful for them both. We feel you and Jared smiling down at us all and that gives us the comfort we need to get through some days. Happy Birthday Derek!

To our son, Derek. It is hard to believe that it has been 4 years. Not a day passes without thinking of you and wondering what life would be if you were still with us. Your children are amazing and you would be so proud of them. They help us through the pain of losing you and Jared. We see you in their eyes, and it is beautiful. Until we see you again,

Aunt Diane and Uncle Ed...I am still in such a state of shock at Derek's tragic passing. Though many miles separate us, know that I share your grief. I remember when Derek was a little boy, he called me "Aunt Debbie". Though we were cousins, I asked him why he called me "aunt" and he said because I was extra special and therefore deserved to be called "aunt". I have never forgotten that. Derek was my beloved godson and I will hold his memory in my heart always. I hope the outpouring of sympathy you are receiving is some consolation at this incredibly sad time. You, Ashley, Jared, Crista, and Derek's children will be in my thoughts and prayers...always. I love you!
