SUNBURY - Jean Elizabeth Seebold Jaegers, 87, of 1002 N. Front St., a golfer, teacher, wife and mother, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2009, at her home.
She was born Dec. 3, 1921, in Sunbury, the daughter of the late Harry Charles and Margaret Elizabeth (Weaver) Seebold. She was married for 50 years to Robert Adams Jaegers, who preceded her in death in 2002.
Jean was a 1939 graduate of Sunbury High School, attended Hood College and graduated from Cedar Crest College in 1943.
She taught home economics at Northumberland High School and Sunbury Junior High School after graduation and returned to full-time teaching in the 1970s in the Shikellamy School District after her family was raised.
Jean was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Sunbury. She was a lifelong member of the Susquehanna Valley Country Club, winning the ladies' club championship 17 times from 1935 to 1976 and recording five holes-in-one. She was the first coach of the Shikellamy High School golf team. An outstanding tennis player in her youth, she and her brother, Charles, took up golf in their early teens.
Jean later became an avid bowler and enjoyed reading and gardening, as well as a good game of bridge.
She is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert Seebold and Denise Jeagers of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Harry Charles Jaegers of Sunbury and James Christian Jaegers of New York City, and two grandchildren, Heidi Kathryn Jaegers and Robert Charles Jaegers of Palm Beach Gardens.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Christopher Seebold.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Front Street and Woodlawn Avenue, Sunbury, with Vicar Robin C. Jarrell officiating.
Burial will be in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests donations be made in Jean's memory to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church or the Degenstein Community Library, 40 S. Fifth St., Sunbury, PA 17801.
