CARLISLE - Constantinos N. "Charlie" Mallios, 86, of Burnthouse Road, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at the home of his daughter.
He was born April 23, 1917, in Nelhorion, Nafpaktias, Greece, a son of the late Nicholas and Athanasia (Karagian-nis) Mallios. He was the widower of Alexandria "Dixie" Ramos from Brooklyn, who passed away in 1995. They were married on Dec. 25, 1940, at the Molly Pitcher Hotel in Carlisle. They were married for 55 years.
Mr. Mallios immigrated to the United States at the age of 18, and celebrated his 19th birthday on the ship. He became a naturalized citizen on June 1, 1942.
He graduated from business high school in Patras, Greece, in 1935.
Mr. Mallios established Sunnyside Restaurant, Carlisle, in 1948. He also established, along with his brother John, the Deer Lodge Restaurant, Mount Holly Springs, in 1962.
He was the only elected life-long member of the parish council of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Camp Hill. He was co-founder of the annual Holy Trinity Greek Festival; founding member of the Neohorian Sylligos, a society made of the immigrants from his village in Greece; a member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association, AHEPA, Chapter No. 64; and was honored in 2004 for his continuing work to advance the lives of Greek immigrants and received the AHEPA Lifetime Achievement Award.
Mr. Mallios was also a member of Farmer's Trust Bank, serving on the board of directors for more than 10 years; a member of Carlisle Exchange Club, through which he was awarded the Molly Pitcher Man of the Year Award in 1983; and was an honorary member of the Blue Mountain Chapter of the Safari Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Athanasia Ward and Vasiliki Mallios Baker, both of Carlisle; one son, Nick Mallios of Newville; one brother, George Mallios of Patras, Greece; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife, was a brother, John Mallios.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with a Trisagion at 8 p.m., and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Drive, Camp Hill. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church by the Rev. Costas Keares.
Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Central PA, P.O. Box 266, 98 S. Enola Drive, Enola, PA 17025-2066, or to Mount Tabor Children's Church Camp Fund. Donation envelopes will be provided at the church, as well as at the viewing.

Our condolences to the entire family. We loved Charlie very much. He was one of a kind. He had charisma and class and was never at a loss for kind words. He is sadly missed.
