Felice Spatola McElwaine Obituary
Felice Spatola McElwaine, 75, resident of Ave Maria, Florida, moved to eternal peace in the comfort of her home on December 11, 2016 after a brave and enduring battle with cancer. She was comforted by her beloved husband of 54 years, Francis Edward McElwaine and cared for through the end by her eldest daughter, Patrice. Felice was born on March 11, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Michael and Kathryn Spatola (McGrath). She attended Merion Mercy Academy in Merion, PA. She wed Francis Edward McElwaine on September 29, 1962 at St. Colman’s Catholic Church in Ardmore, Pennsylvania and in special attendance at their wedding were her many fourth grade students from St. Denis School where she taught, a tribute to her love of children and theirs of her. She later went on to open her own nursery school “Mary Poppins” in Overbrook, Pennsylvania while raising her seven children, Patrice (Namiotka), Victoria McElwaine (Gonzalez), Dannielle (Doran), Kirsten McElwaine, Thuy (Donnelly), John Phan McElwaine, and Jessica (Theiss). She and Frank are blessed with 16 wonderful grandchildren. Felice is survived by her three sisters Patricia (Pat) Scioli, Victoria (Vickie) Letulle and Michelle (Shelley) Keenan. During her lifetime, Felice was a constant source of both spiritual and scholarly inspiration to her family. Besides running a large, loving Catholic household, she attained her B.S. from Hahnemann University in Philadephia (1985) and went on to achieve her Juris Doctor degree at Villanova University (1988) at the age of 47. After serving as an attorney in Philadelphia, she then enjoyed a lengthy career as a judicial law clerk, first at the Philadelphia Courthouse and later at the Chester County Courthouse and even ran for district judge in 2008. She retired to Ave Maria, Florida with her husband Frank in 2013. Memorial Services will be held at St. Maximillian Kolbe Church in Westtown, Pennsylvania. Viewing 10AM, January 14th, 2017. Mass following at 11AM. “For the kind of Giving He was talking about isn’t just being generous with your wine. No, it’s all about me letting you be you and not trying to make you mine.” -from Felice’s song, “Giving”
