Edna Jackson Obituary

Edna W. 'Ted' Jackson of Kennett Square Edna W. "Ted" Jackson, 98, of the Friends Home of Kennett Square, formerly of Christiana, Pa., passed away at the Friends Home on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. She was the wife of the late Brinton W. Jackson who passed away on May 31, 1958. She was born in Homeville, daughter of the late William W. and Julia Ann Girvin Walton. She was a member of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church of Quarryville and prior to that she had attended Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church of Steelville. She was a graduate of Coatesville High School class of 1930 and then received her R.N. from the Wilmington Memorial Hospital in 1934, B.S. in nursing education from West Chester State College in 1968. Ted was a nurse at the Wilmington Memorial Hospital and was a home and school nurse in the Wilmington School District. She worked briefly at the former Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital. Ted then worked at the Kennett High School as a school nurse for 16 years. Her greatest joy was being with family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, especially tending to her roses, animals, playing cards and reading. Surviving are three children, I. Sue Jackson of Bloomsburg, Otley W. Jackson of Jennersville and Mary Ann Jackson of Wilmington, Del.; two grandchildren, Brinton D., husband of Christine Jackson of Abu Dhabi, UAE and Beth Ann, wife of Shawn McSherry of Landisville. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Mildred, Ida, Willard Walton and Leah Plass. Her funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. with a viewing time from 1:30 p.m. until time of service on Sunday, July 17, at the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, Pa. Pastor Ann G. Dickey will be officiating. Interment will be in the Sadsbury Friends Burial Grounds, Gap. shiveryfuneralhome.com
