Gwendolyn Walley Haines (February 7, 1927 – May 12, 2021) of West Chester Gwendolyn Walley Haines, daughter of the late Gwendolyn Honeywell Walley and H. Donald Walley, was raised in the Crafton section of Pittsburgh and attended Crafton High School. Following high school graduation she attended her beloved Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA, class of 1948. After graduating from Wilson, Gwen moved to Lancaster, PA and worked in the Public Relations office at Franklin and Marshall College. There she met the handsome and dashing, William B. Haines Jr. They were married in 1950, settled in West Chester, PA and Gwen worked for the President of West Chester State Teacher’s College until her children were born. Gwen was active in the West Chester community as a member of Junior New Century Club, the West Chester Players, Superintendent of the Junior Sunday School at First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Board of Directors at The Wentworth Home. She was an avid golfer winning the Ladies Club Championship at West Chester Golf and Country Club in 1985, served as Women’s Golf Chair, played on the Ladies Golf Team, was a member of the Women’s Golf Association of Philadelphia and served on the Board of Governors at West Chester Golf and Country Club. In 2009 she moved to Wellington at Hershey’s Mill where she made many new friends, enjoyed the social life in the community, arranged theater trips, movie nights and served on the Resident Advisory Council. Remaining always involved in her alma mater, Wilson College, she served as Treasurer of the Wilson Club of Philadelphia, on the Alumnae Council, reunion committees , chairman of various fundraising drives and Class Agent and Correspondent. Gwen loved musical theater, sewing and reading. Even into her 94th year, she read 2 newspapers, worked 2 crossword puzzles and 2 Sudoku puzzles everyday keeping her brain and wit always sharp. She was predeceased by her parents and husband, William B. Haines Jr and is survived by 3 daughters Susan Casso Rogers (Bob Rogers), Kathryn White (Charles White), and Barbara Triolo (Sal Triolo), 3 grandchildren Gwendolyn Schorling (Eric), Caroline Hinton (Matt) and JD Triolo, and 2 great grandchildren Russell and Clark Schorling. The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and aides at Angel Companions and Willow Tree Hospice for their devotion and good care. In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to Wilson College, attn: Alumnae Office, 1015 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201 Internment in Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery will be private. A wonderful lady with so much joy in her heart. She was so helpful at Wellington organizing many trips and writing important letters to management.
