Johnie Adams Pennington, 95, began her eternal celebration with her Lord and Savior on April 21, 2021. She is preceded in death by parents Letha and Leslie Adams, husband Jack, and son Charles "Smokey" Pennington. Family members still living are daughter, Debbie Conerly of Tuscaloosa; granddaughter, Anna Sweatman (Matt) of Huntsville, AL; and great-granddaughters, Allie Adams, Sara Erwin, and Ginger Clark.

Johnie was also lovingly known as John Brown and BB. She was born November 29, 1925 and lived the majority of her young life in Bruce, MS. She attended Blue Mountain College and Ole Miss during the mid 1940s. She moved to Memphis, TN in the early 50s where she worked for Memphis Light Gas and Water. There she met the love of her life, Jack. Johnie and Jack were married in 1955. They last belonged to the Friendship Class at Germantown Baptist Church. Johnie taught Pre-school Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years while in Memphis. In 2015, she moved to Tuscaloosa, AL to be closer to her daughter and joined First Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa. She was obedient to God and dearly loved her church family. She raised Smokey and Debbie to follow her love and devotion to her Savior and His church. Johnie enjoyed traveling with her family, especially to New Orleans, where she enjoyed its history and music. Jack influenced her to become a sports fan. Her favorite teams to watch were Duke, the New York Giants, and Alabama. Her family now pictures her rejoicing with family members gone before her to their eternal home.
