NEWPORT NEWS - Deborah Delyn Rimmer Nelson, 62, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, May 9, 2013. She was born in Knoxville, TN on February 16, 1951. She was predeceased by her husband, Timothy A. Nelson, mother Jewel L. Rimmer, father Omer H. (Bud) Rimmer, Jr., and brother Alan Hudson Rimmer. She is survived by her sister, Kay A. Van Valkenburg of Williamsburg, niece Kelly P. Van Valkenburg of Brooklyn, NY, mother-in-law Georgia Nelson, sister-in-law Tami Rose Nelson, sweetheart Robert (Punch) Davis, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and very close and loving nieces and nephews. Debby was a military brat who embraced the army life. With her family she traveled the world and made friends wherever she went. She loved all of dad's assignments, the last being Fort Monroe where she made many lasting memories and lifelong friends. She graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1969, and remained close to her classmates through the years. She worked for NASA LaRC for 28 years, retiring last November. Debby was a kindhearted, generous, and loving woman who touched many lives. She was always willing to help family, friends and strangers alike. She will be missed by all who knew her, and the world is a sadder place without her. Debby lived the qualities of the Fruit of the Spirit with grace everyday - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. That was the fruit of her spirit. She is now in the loving arms or Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. There will be a memorial service for Debby at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, May 21st, 2013, at Central Baptist Church, 2739 Hampton Highway, Yorktown, VA 23693, with visitation beginning at 5:00 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Central Baptist Church.

What a sweet, sweet cousin, Debbie was. We didn't see each other as often in later years but we kept up with each other. She will be missed but what rejoicing in heaven for her now and when we see each other again. Love and prayers to Kay,

Debby and I were related by marriage. She was my sister's sister in law. Over the years we shared birthdays and special occasions. My niece and nephew loved her so much, as did my sister. They were such close friends. We will all miss her, the world will be a strange place without her.
My deepest sympathies to you Kay and Punch. Blessings to you all.

I found this on Debby's Facebook from a few years ago. I don't know if the words are Debby's or if she borrowed them. Either way, I feel it sums up her philosophy on life.
Life
is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right.... Love the ones who don't just because you can. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Kiss slowly. Forgive quickly. God never said life would be easy. He just promised it would be worth it.
Soar with the angles and be at peace..

I am so glad I got to visit with Debby and meet Punch last month. Debby was truly "one of a kind", so generous and kindhearted. Rich and I were so grateful for all her prayers for us in 2011. I know Debby is looking over Kay, Kelly, and Punch to see them through this time of sorrow. GOD bless you. Lois and Richard Hazzard

I love you and miss you, Debby. You were my big sister who always loved and protected me. What will I do without you? I am selfish for wanting you back. I know you are in heaven and experiencing more joy than any of us left here can even imagine. I'll see you again one day, and what a homecoming it will be!

I can't pick just one thing to say about Deb. After 36 years being friends there are too many things to say and not enough room. We met at TNCC in the computer lab in 1977, worked together as officers for PTK amd the business fraternity. PTK took us to St. Louis and DC for conventions and lots of fun! After leaving TNCC we worked together for a short time and then Deb went on to an IT career at which she excelled! Last Christmas on FB she posted photos of ornaments I had given her over the years and that she still used. I posted back with ornaments from my tree that she had made over the years. Memories of wonderful times! In recent weeks we had talked/joked about what this year might bring. We didn't talk as often as we did years ago but when we talked WE TALKED! Debby loved Kay, Kelly and Punch with all her heart. She would share stories of the fun times with them. I remember how she helped with Christy's wedding. She made an album to share with family and friends at Christy's wedding and she and Tim took photos at the wedding so we wouldn't have to wait until the official photos came back. She made an album of our time at TNCC which I cherish. She was so talented and so very giving! She was the 'Wind Beneath The Wings' of many. Debby I will miss you and I love you. See you again someday!

Oh Dear God, I know you wanted Debbie your special angel close to you, but you have taken the sunshine away from all her family and friends! If only I could have seen her one more time & held her close & told her again how much I loved her & wished she could have been my sister! I love you my Debbie! Sagapo poli. Flossie

Debby contributed to my living with her fun geekiness, her vulnerability and her many affirmations. Just last week she taunted me for not eating my servings of yellow squash. It ain't over yet is it?
