David Paul Peters

1938 - 2021

David Paul Peters went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 16, 2021. David was born in Holland, Michigan on October 11, 1938. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Louise Freeman Peters; parents, Reinhardt Edward Frederick and Josephine Alderink Peters; and son, David Paul Peters, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Jo Peters Nehme (Terry S. Dennis) of Poquoson; son, Paul Edward Peters; brother, Bruce Henry Peters and wife Linda of Chesapeake; granddaughter Amy Sue Nehme (Zachariah McDougle) of Smithfield; grandson, Mark Paul Nehme of Providence, Rhode Island; and niece, Hollie L. Floyd. David retired from Virginia Electric and Power Company (VEPCO) in 1994 after 38 years of service. He was a Charter Member of the Poquoson Exchange Club, a brother in the Poquoson Masonic Lodge #49, a member of the Scottish Rites in Newport News and a Shriner at the Khedive Shriner's Temple in Chesapeake. He also belonged to the Moose Lodge #1119 in Newport News and The Poquoson Yacht Club. He loved hunting and was a member of the George Washington Hunt Club and Marshall Hunt Club. After hunting in his later years, he took up the game of golf. David coached Girls' Softball in Virginia Beach which led the team to the city championship in the 1970's. Also in the 1970's in Poquoson, he coached little league baseball.

A visitation will be held Monday, March 24, 2021 from 6-7:30 PM at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home in Poquoson. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Emmaus Baptist Church. Burial will take place prior to the service at 11:00 AM at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, David wishes donations to be made to the Shriner's Hospital, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Gary Sinise Foundation, or Homes for Heroes.
