Adora Lou Williams passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020, at the age of 79. She was a native and life-long resident of Newport News. Adora was a life-time member of Northside Christian Church, Piece Makers Quilt Guild, and numerous other quilting bees.

She was an amazing woman who never met a stranger; she was outgoing and vibrant; she was a life-long friend, a second mother to her children's friends, a beloved wife, homemaker, incredible mother, amazing Nana, and many other special relationships.

She was preceded in death by her father, Henry French, mother, Mary Magdalene French, brother, Thomas Wells, and sister, Ann Brendle.

Adora is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Charles Williams; daughter, Karen Cunningham; sons, Dennis McCaskill (Laurie), Gene Williams (Anne) and Donald Williams (Beneline); five grandchildren Bryan, Alden, Evan, Madilyn and Kelly; and two great-grandchildren, Jaycee and Layla.

A family service was held at Peninsula Memorial Park.

Mom and Nana, we love you to the moon and back, forever and always.

To Bobby, Gene, Dennis, Karen, and Donald, I extend my deepest sympathy and know that Adora is looking down from heaven and couldn't be prouder of her family. Moms are special people, especially ones like yours. From the time I spent with her, she made me feel welcome, and I just knew she was the rock of the Williams family. I know that she was so proud of each and every one of you and encouraged each of you to be the best you could be. Thats reflected in your life and Adora was a big part of that. I am sincerely sorry for the loss of your mother.

Adora was the perfect name for this great lady because Greg and I do not know anyone who did not adore her. She was always there to help and to flash that beautiful smile that could outshine the sun. God truly blessed us all by letting us know her and letting her be part of our lives. Rest in heavenly peace, Adora, and we will see you again.

Adora was such an exuberant woman! She was so friendly and caring. She was supportive of all her quilting sisters. When my picture, at the quilt show, was in the newspaper, Adora laminated it and brought it to me. Ill never forget her kindness. Adora, you will be greatly missed!

She always had a smile and kind words and encouragement, never a harsh word. She was the kind of friend you can never forget and will truly miss. I havent seen her or had the opportunity to quilt with her since I moved 7 years ago, but we remained Facebook friends and I will miss her encouraging posts.
