Andrew Lee "Al" Forbes Jr. Obituary
Andrew Lee "Al" Forbes, Jr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 31, 2018. Al was born December 7, 1936 in Norfolk, Va. to Andrew L. Forbes, Sr. and Elizabeth (Morris) Forbes. He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Faison Forbes, five children and 11 grandchildren. Al will be missed for his love of his family and faithful service to God. Al graduated from Granby High School in 1955, and served his country as a Marine in both active duty and the reserves. Al had a varied career with VEPCO, C&P Telephone Company, and the U.S. Post Office, before his retirement from NASA in 1995, after 29 years of service. Al was a Freemason for over 50 years, and in his retirement, he enjoyed reading old western novels, hunting, golfing, and traveling with his family and friends. Above all, Al's greatest joy was serving his Lord at Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and active member of numerous committees. Al was a positive mentor to many people and freely shared his testimony, love, and encouragement with others to shape their lives in a compassionate, caring manner. In death, we know he has received his reward and now lives with his Savior forever. Visitation will be at Peninsula Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 5 from 6 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Thursday, September 6 at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 6373, Newport News, VA 23606 or Tabernacle Baptist Church, 401 Lucas Creek Rd., Newport News, VA 23602.
