POQUOSON - Arthur B. Bristow Jr., 66, lost his brief battle with cancer while resting comfortably in his recliner at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 17, 2017. He was a native of Hampton and Poquoson resident for 28 years. Arthur retired from the X31 & QID Departments at Newport News Shipbuilding in 2012 after 38 years of service. He was a Vietnam Army veteran, and an active member of Keep The Promise Ministry in Poquoson. He loved his Harley-Davidson and was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association, and enjoyed woodworking in his garage. Arthur was preceded in death by his father, Arthur B. Bristow Sr.; father-in-law, Robert "Cut" Firth; and brother-in-law, Danny Edwards Sr. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gale Firth Bristow; daughters, Shannon Bristow (Shayne) and Angie Bristow Statts; mother, Mildred S. Bristow; mother-in-law, Wilma Boone; sister, Dianna Edwards; brother, David Bristow (Anita); grandchildren, Gabrielle Brauer (Zach), Caitlin Brauer, and Shayne Zasimowich Jr.; nieces and nephews, Danny Jr., Greg, Christy, Grayson, Warren, Andy, Billy, and Amanda; sister-in-law, Robin Forrest (Bubba); former son-in-law, Craig Brauer; numerous special great-nieces and great-nephews; and his canine best friend, Bandit. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 26, 4:00-5:00 PM immediately followed by a Celebration of Arthur's life at 5:00 PM led by Pastor Buddy Chapman with military honors afterwards, all at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson. Burial will be at a later date. At other times the family will be at the home, 212 Ridge Road.
