Benjamin Ray Freeman, 83, a Poquoson resident most of his life, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. He retired from N.A.S.A. after over thirty years, working as an Engineering Technician in the wind tunnels for most of his career. Ben was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Poquoson; was a U. S. Army Veteran; and enjoyed gardening and kept a beautiful lawn. Benjamin Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Ben & Thelma Freeman. He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Ann Sykes & husband Marty; son, Ray Freeman & wife Maria; grandchildren, Taylor Ray Freeman, and Joy Sykes Birchum & husband Brent; and brother, Eddie Lee Freeman. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 28, 6-7:30 PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at Joyce Ann’s home. A Celebration of Ben’s life will be held Sunday, April 29, 2:00 PM at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, led by Pastor Brent Staul. Interment will follow at Smith Memorial Cemetery, Poquoson.
