Bertil R. "Bert" Koller

NEWPORT NEWS - Bertil Koller, 79, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008.
Mr. Koller was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on Dec. 13, 1928, to the late Oscar and Anna Koller and had been a Newport News resident since 1968. He retired as a Lt. Commander from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service, during which he was stationed in Norway and France. His ship assignments were numerous, including the Forestal, where he was Supply Officer. He also retired from the Newport News Shipyard Budgeting Department after 21 years of service. He volunteered with the Virginia Living Museum and Mariners' Museum for seven years.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marcia M. Koller; daughter, Claudia K. McNab and husband, Dr. James McNab, of Charleston, S.C.; son, Dr. Kent B. Koller and wife, Dr. Deborah Koller, of Richmond; four grandchildren, Scott and Robert Koller and Katherine and Andrew McNab; and a brother, Jim Koller of Arkansas.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Warwick Forest.
Memorial contributions may be made to Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
