POQUOSON - Betty Insley Duty, 71, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Betty retired in 2012 as Secretary/Bookkeeper for Poquoson Public Schools after 32 years of service. She was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Poquoson. She was an icon at Poquoson High School and an avid follower of Islander sports, and was inducted into the Order of the Bullpen in 1987. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Goodwin W. & Mable W. Insley, and brothers, Kenneth Insley and Jimmy Insley. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, James E. "Jim" Duty; two sons, Elliott Duty & wife Susan, and Jason Duty & wife Julie; sister, Judy Topping; six grandchildren, Megan, Jordan, and Sydney Duty, and Josh, Jake, and Justin (Kim) Hollingsworth; great-grandchildren, Taylor Hollingsworth and Hannah Garmon; niece, Catherine I. Shields & husband Mallory, and many other nieces and nephews who loved her very much. "Betty was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and aunt." The family will receive friends Thursday, March 12, 6:30-9:00 PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at her birthplace, 599 Wythe Creek Rd. A Celebration of Betty's life will be held Friday (on her birthday), 3:00 PM, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church by Rev. Barry Throckmorton. Interment will follow at Weston Cemetery, Poquoson, followed by a reception back at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
