Betty M. GIBBS Obituary
POQUOSON - Betty M. Gibbs, born Jan. 2, 1937, passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at home surrounded by her family. She was a longtime resident of Poquoson, a member of Messick Baptist Church, and had served as Girl Scout leader for Poquoson Troop #237.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Wilma and Charles T. Fisher; parents-in-law, Pauline and George Gibbs; sister, Edna Smithley; and brothers, Elroy Cox and Charles T. Fisher Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, William Gibbs; two daughters, Paula McPherson of Newport News, and Susan Gibbs of Poquoson; two grandchildren, Wyn McPherson Jr. and wife, Stephanie of Hampton, and Heather McPherson of Newport News; a sister, Margie Fowler and husband, Robert of Poquoson; a brother, Thomas R. Fisher and wife, Diane of Richmond; and many other extended family. "Betty was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother."
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at the home. A celebration of Betty's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home by the Rev. H. Ben Topping Jr. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.
