Bobby Gene Tignor Obituary
POQUOSON - Bobby Gene Tignor, 75, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. He moved to Poquoson from Caroline County in 1958 at age 19, and worked at the Newport News Shipyard from 1958 until 1996, and with only a 10th grade education he worked his way up to retire as a General Foreman after 38 years. He had a strong work ethic and after retiring from the shipyard he started Pearls Market - Landscaping and Produce, and was well known for his involvement in the Farmer's Market in Yorktown. He was also instrumental in starting Helping Hands in 2003; was President of Cat Hunt Club; a member of Emmaus Baptist Church; and he volunteered his time and provided for uncountable community events. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, John Harry and Viola Allen Tignor, and numerous brothers and sisters. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Pearl Loving Tignor; sons, Mike Tignor and wife, Denise, and Barry Tignor and wife, Malanie; he was Papa and a hero to grandchildren, Amanda Tignor Rossi and husband, Elijah, Brandon Lynn Tignor, Kristin Lorin Tignor, Ashley Lynn Tignor, Amber Michelle Tignor, and Autumn Leigh Tignor; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Roman Rossi, Maggie Grace Rossi, and Roman Paul Rossi; brothers, John Tignor and wife, Margaret, Clarence Tignor and wife, Elsie, and George Tignor and wife, Joyce; and numerous family members, too many to mention. A visitation will be held on Sunday, 4-6:30 pm, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson. A Celebration of Bobby's life will be held on Monday, 2:00 pm, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Poquoson, by Rev. George T. Insley, Jr., and Pastor Dan Cromer. Burial will follow in Weston Cemetery, Poquoson. Other times, the family will be at the home.
