Bobby L. CHAFFIN Obituary
POQUOSON - Bobby Lee Chaffin, 80, a native of Coeburn, Va., and Peninsula resident since 1951, passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012.
He served three years of active duty in the U.S. Army, and retired from the Naval Reserve after 30 years. He worked at Newport News Shipbuilding for 17 years as a machinist, and retired in 2001 from Langley AFB as a Civil Engineer after 27 years.
Bobby was a member of Northside Christian Church, Yorktown, and the Philothian Sunday School Class. He was a member of Coeburn Masonic Lodge #97.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Fred Chaffin; mother, Reba Rose; and brother, Chester Chaffin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Alta Chaffin; two sons, Bobby Lee Chaffin Jr. and wife, Yvette of Tampa, Fla., and Brian K. Chaffin and wife Angie, of Gloucester; seven grandchildren, Seth, Jacob, and Samuel Chaffin of Tampa, Tyler, Whitley, and Kelsey Jones, of Gloucester, and Kaitlyn Chaffin, of Gloucester; and an aunt, Margaret Rogers, of Urbanna. "Bobby was a god-fearing man, a devoted husband, and loving father and grandfather.'
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Northside Christian Church, immediately followed by a funeral service in the church at 2:30 p.m. by Pastor Larry Jones. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, with military honors.
