Carl J. MAGEE Obituary
POQUOSON - Dr. Carl J. Magee, 73, formerly of Lake Geneva, Wis., passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012. Carl was born in Madison, Wis., on April 22, 1939, to Claire and Gladys Magee.
He earned a B.S.E.E. from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and a M.S.E.E. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While in school he met and married Wanda Marie Elmhorst in 1965.
Carl began his distinguished career, which included numerous honors, awards, and publications, in Naples, Italy and Santiago, Chile. After returning to the U.S., he taught at the University of Notre Dame before moving to Roanoke, Va., for a position with ITT. In 1980, they settled in Poquoson and Carl joined N.A.S.A. as an Aero-Space Technologist, retiring in 2005. His expertise was in the field of laser diodes. He also enjoyed woodworking as a hobby.
Carl is survived by his wife, Wanda; brother, Larry Magee and wife, Verna of Lake Geneva; a niece, Susan Raia and husband, Tom and their children, Natalie and Elliott of Katy, Texas; a nephew, Brian Magee of Lake Geneva; and two brothers-in-law, Gary Elmhorst and wife, Kris, and Darrel Elmhorst and wife, Laurie, all of Wisconsin.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
