POQUOSON - Charles Edward Grube, 78, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. He was born and raised in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, the oldest son of Ervin and Doris Grube. After graduation from high School, Charles enlisted in the Air Force, serving with honor and pride. After his military service, he graduated from the Air Traffic Control Academy in Oklahoma City, and attended Clayton College in Georgia. He worked as an air traffic controller at the Atlanta Airport, and then at the air traffic control center in Hampton, Georgia for fifteen years. In 1981, he moved his family to Poquoson to work as an airspace manager with the Tactical Air Command at Langley Air Force Base, where he rounded out his career of over forty years in 2000. Charles was a charter member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, Yorktown, which he faithfully attended until limited by infirmity. He was always a willing participant in all sorts of activities benefiting our schools and community in general. He was a solid, proud American who loved his God, family and country. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and two siblings, Ken and Robert Grube. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Haydee; his sister, Betty; two sons, Chad and Erick; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 7th at 11 a.m., at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church by Dr. Michael T. Condrey.
