Clara E. MOORE Obituary
POQUOSON - Clara Elizabeth Miles Moore, 86, passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on Sept. 22, 2012, in Poquoson.
She was born on Oct. 9, 1925, in Spencer, where she spent her early years before moving to Newport News during the latter years of WWII. In 1946, she married Robert Cecil Moore, of Poquoson, and settled in as a wife, homemaker, and mother of three children.
Elizabeth was a devoted mother and grandmother, who cherished times with family, especially family get-togethers during the holidays. She was an accomplished, self-taught seamstress in the community for over three decades, an amazing softball player, avid bowler, and was a passionate reader. As a long-term active member of Emmaus Baptist Church, she served in various positions to include the Women's Missionary Union.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Allen and Clara Clark Miles; three brothers, Richard, Jack and Carl Miles (June); two sisters, Nellie Mae Wade (Roy) and Vera Miles Wade (Ed); and brother-in-law, Thorton Horsley.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Robert Cecil Moore; two daughters, Gail Moore Rocha and Sheryl Moore Cartee (Chris); and son, Robert Cecil Moore Jr. (Barbara); four grandchildren, David Moore (Kim Catalano and son, Christopher), Heidi Gibbons (Chris), Lauren Cartee (Michael Nunley), and Alyssa Cartee; two sisters, Hattie Miles Horsley, Myrtle Miles; brother, Jimmy Miles (Sue); sister-in-law, Francis Miles; cousin, Eva Miles Moore; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended loving family.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and nurses of Personal Touch Hospice Care, for their love and support, and especially to all the caregivers, Vera Butler, Necoma Gregory, Latoya Houston, and Toshiba Lee. Special thanks to Mary Riggins, neighbor and friend to Elizabeth for over 50 years, who provided loving support to her and the family over the past years, and to Tony White, who has been a close and supportive friend while caring for her husband.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, 836 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Emmaus Baptist Church, 814 Yorktown Rd., Poquoson, by Pastor Dan Cromer. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Department, P.O. Box 2099, Poquoson, VA 23662; or Personal Touch Home Care & Hospice of VA, Inc., 733 Thimble Shoals Rd., Suite 150, Newport News, VA 23606.
