POQUOSON - Clarence Thomas "Tom" Madre, 83, a native of Hertford, NC, and Poquoson resident for 40 years, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 7, 2014. Upon retiring in 1971 as a Senior Master Sgt. after 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, he went on to work as an instructor at Embry Riddle University, and as an Audio Visual Manager at Thomas Nelson Community College. Tom was a licensed pilot and loved flying. He was a long time member of International Flying Farmers, and of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 156. He was also an avid Ham Radio Operator. Tom was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Dunsmoor Madre. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Bonnie Claar Madre; two sons, Tom Madre & wife, Ruth of Charlotte, NC, and Steve Madre & wife, Robin of Gloucester; a daughter, Patti Madre Nicholson & husband, Matt of Charlotte, NC; brother, Edward Lee Madre & wife, Ann of Hertford, NC; seven grandchildren, Elliot Madre, Thomas Madre, Cameron Nicholson, Erin Nicholson, Christopher Madre, Matthew Madre, and Stacey Madre Smith; three great-grandchildren, Molly Smith, Michael Madre, and Emma Madre-Adams. The family will receive friends Monday, 7-8:30 PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson. A Celebration of Tom's life will be held Tuesday, 11:00 AM, at Hampton Baptist Church, Hampton by Rev. Dr. Betty Pugh Mills. A graveside service for family will follow on Tuesday, 3:30 PM, at Cedarwood Cemetery, Hertford, NC with military honors.
