RED LION, PA. - Clyde Matthew Bryant Jr., 71, of Red Lion, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 at Select Specialty Hospital, Camp Hill, PA.
He was the husband of Faye H. (Hitchens) Bryant of Red Lion. Mr. and Mrs. Bryant would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 11, 2012. Born Nov. 23, 1940, in Newport News, Va., he was the son of the late Clyde Matthew and Phyllis (Walker) Bryant.
Clyde was a 1958 graduate of Newport News High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Virginia Military Institute in 1962 and completed graduate courses in Public Administration at Ball State University. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant, in 1962, in the U.S. Army and served as an armor officer until 1965, when he began his intelligence career with the Army. Major Bryant retired from the Army in 1978, after serving various positions as an intelligence officer. His military career included serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. From 1979 to 1982, he held several positions as an intelligence specialist with the Drug Enforcement Administration. In 1982, he joined the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and was manager of the Department of Defense HUMINT System. In 1987, he became assistant deputy director for Policy and Program Management. Clyde was a member of Grace Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a heart recipient, in 2007, at Hershey Medical Center through the Gift of Life Donor Program.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Gale and her husband, Edward Stanford of Highland, Md., Barbara and her husband, Richard Seward of Red Lion, and Stacey and her husband, Robert Praschunus of Perkasie, Pa.; a son, Clyde "Chip" Matthew Bryant III and his wife, Tracy of Bowie, Md.; seven grandchildren, Eric and Valerie Stanford, Joshua and Katelin Seward, Bryant Romerstein, and Cassidy and Skyler Bryant; and a great-granddaughter, Trinity Seward. He is also survived by a sister, Dru and her husband, Richard Davis of Spring, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at Grace Baptist Church, 3920 East Prospect Road, York, Pa., with Pastor Gary L. Auker, his pastor, officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa. Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the church.
