POQUOSON - Retired Marine Corps Colonel, Francis Andriliunas passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 after a long illness. Born May 7, 1928 to the late Jonas and Valeria Andriliunas of Athol, Massachusetts, Francis grew up the son of Lithuanian immigrants during the great depression. Upon graduation from high school in 1946, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he was stationed at the Marine Corp Barracks in Washington DC. Francis graduated from Brown University, where he earned a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the USMC, married his high school sweetheart Anna Salkaus, and they began a 54 year life together with the challenges a military family faces. Francis served as an artillery officer in both the Korean and Vietnam wars, and received a commendation for his contribution during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and his logistical skills during the refugee evacuation of Vietnam. Francis received his Master's Degree in International Affairs from G.W. University in 1972, and also attended the Naval War College. His proudest career moments included the time he served on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Commanding Officer of the 10th Marine Regiment, and as he finished his military career was assigned as the Marine Liaison Officer to TRADOC at Ft. Monroe. After his career in the Marines, he spent the next twenty years as a Real Estate Agent for Long and Foster, making many close friends including Jean Long and Donna Gailey. Francis was a proud member of The Poquoson Exchange Club, American Legion Post 273, and The Veterans of Foreign Wars, and many other Marine Corps and Military associations. In the end, he appreciated the many people and experiences he had throughout life. Francis was preceded in death by his beloved Anna who as a military wife was his bulwark and soulmate over long periods between military assignments. He is survived by sons, Mike and wife Pamela, and Frank and wife, Grace; daughter, Susan Rozell and husband, Lance; grandchildren, Michael Andriliunas and wife Brooke, Brian Andriliunas and wife Erin, Jeff Andriliunas, Mary Baker and husband Josias, Madison Andriliunas, and Thor Rozell and wife Amanda; great-grandchildren, Grant, Darby, Emerson, and Dylan; brother, Vyto Andreliunas & wife, Patricia, their son and daughters, John Andreliunas, Julie Villagran, Amy Donegan, and Kristy Warner; brother-in-law, Peter Salkaus & wife, Aldona; sister-in-law, Agatha; nieces, Debbie Reicher and Elaine Salkaus; nephews, Joseph, Edward, and Stephen Salkaus, and George "Buddy" Giradi, Jr. & wife, Judy.
