POQUOSON - David Monroe Thompson, 74, passed away on February 14, 2014. A native of Alabama, he resided in Poquoson for most of his life. A member of Emmaus Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon for many years. David retired from the Army as a Sergeant First Class and from Wyle Laboratories in 1979 after 20 plus years of service as an Electrical Technician. He loved hunting, fishing and anything to do with computers. His love for his children, grandson, and everyone else's children was one of his greatest joys. David was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jean Robertson, and his first wife, Pok Su Thompson. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Sun Thompson; a son, Richard Thompson of Richmond, VA.; two daughters, Nancy Thompson and husband Scott Benish of Savannah, GA., Barbara Barthelmy of Poquoson; and one grandchild, Amir Chandler. The family will receive friends Monday, 11:00AM-12:00PM at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 12:00PM in the funeral home chapel by Pastor Dan Cromer. Burial will follow at Emmaus Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors, with a reception to follow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Virginia Wounded Warriors Program, 900 East Main St., 6th Floor, West Wing, Richmond, VA, 23219.
