Edith Adams Gaughan Obituary
Edith Adams Gaughan was born on March 9, 1924 in Hampton, Virginia, and passed away at her home in Sedalia, Colorado on May 13, 2018. Edith was the daughter of Earl B. Adams, Sr. and Eulalia S. Adams. She married John J. Gaughan on June 1, 1947 and they were together for 62 years. She is survived by her two sons, John, Jr. (Michael Gill) of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Earl M. (Kathy) of Sedalia, Colorado; grandson Michael Gaughan of Wyoming, and granddaughter Jesse Gaughan of Colorado; one brother Earl B. Adams, Jr. of Newport News; and special nieces, nephews and cousins. She was an active member of the Home Demonstration club for many years, worked for Newport News Shipbuilding during WWII, and worked as a bookkeeper for Adams Shoes Store in downtown Newport News. After her children were grown she returned to work as manager of the Warwick Yacht Club. She was always active in her church, where she served as a Deacon and Elder. As a cancer survivor, Edith worked and volunteered regularly in her communities. Throughout her life Edith loved everything musical and took great delight in the talents of her son Jack. She enjoyed her final years living with Earl and Kathy and the many adventures of grandchildren Michael and Jesse. A funeral service will be held at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 210 Harpersville Road, at 2 PM on Saturday, May 19, 2018. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Remount Foundation are suggested (remountfoundation.org). Arrangements by W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
