Edmund W. WAINWRIGHT Obituary
POQUOSON - Edmund Ward Wainwright, 74, a native and lifetime resident of Poquoson, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
He retired, in 1999, after serving 42 years as a machinist for Newport News Shipbuilding. Edmund was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and traveling. But, his love and passion was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, supporting them in all their activities. Edmund was a beloved husband, loving father, and a gentle and loving grandfather, who will be greatly missed by all.
Mr. Wainwright was preceded in death by his parents, George and Rebecca Wainwright; a sister, Millie W. Benthall; a younger brother; and a grandson, Kevin Freeman.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Page Wainwright; his daughters, Cheryl W. Freeman and husband, Tom, Patti L. Wainwright and husband, Rex Schakel, Deborah W. Mahler and husband, Ken, and Lisa W. Southall and husband, Charles; nine grandchildren, Allan Freeman, Danny Freeman, Greg Freeman, Dakota Schakel, Danielle Mahler, Rachel Mahler, Bryce Mahler, Katelyn Southall, and Hunter Southall; a sister, Lillie Wilson and husband, Roy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, immediately followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m., in the funeral home chapel by the Rev. Dr. Bill Wash and the Rev. Milford C. Rollins. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. At other times, friends and family will gather at the family home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 831 Poquoson Avenue, or Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 2099, both Poquoson, VA 23662; or to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
A thank you to all the doctors, nurses, staff at RAI, and Riverside Regional Medical Center, for all their great care and support. Also, a special thanks goes to Dr. Khalil Dahdah and staff, for their many years of wonderful care and support.
