Elmer R. KILGORE Obituary
POQUOSON - Elmer Ray Kilgore, 82, passed away June 12, 2012, after a lengthy illness.
Ray was a very gentle and kind person who loved his family, the most important thing in his life. He took great pride in his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a Christian by faith.
He retired from the Daily Press Inc., in 1996, after 24 years of service. He always worked in printing, in Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, except for his military service, when he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. His hobbies were sports and his coin collection.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram M. and Ona B. Kilgore; and sister, Zella Flanary.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jo Ann; son, Larry W. Kilgore and wife, Arleen; daughter, Teresa Morrow; four grandchildren, Christina Carrington and husband, Steve, Jeremy Kilgore and wife, Desiree, Casey White, Keegan Morrow; four great-grandchildren, Kendra Carrington, Dylan, Jordan, and Emma Kilgore; many nieces and nephews; also one sister-in-law, Edith Dockery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Following the visitation a memorial service will be held in the chapel at 8 p.m. officiated by the Rev. Dr. Michael Condrey. Burial will be take place in Peninsula Memorial Park Friday, June 15, at noon with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, 1209 Hampton Hwy., Yorktown, VA 23693.
