Elwood Lemuel Martin Jr. Obituary
POQUOSON - Elwood Lemuel Martin Jr., "Lil Buster," "Bubba," "Boo-Boo", "Daddy," "Grandaddy," 59, left this world on September 10, 2017. He graduated from Poquoson High School in 1976, then attended the apprentice school, and from there continued his career as a welder for over 30 years at Craft Machine Works. Buster was a one-of-a-kind man with a huge heart. Family always came first for him and he was selfless when it came to the time he spent with them. He was the kind of person that you couldn't help but love as soon as you met him, and you became a friend for life when you did. Buster spent his life dedicated to his wife, family, and community. He dearly loved coaching and attending his childrens' sporting events when they were younger, and continued to support them into adulthood. He never missed a chance to watch his granddaughters perform or play sports, and was always there to meet the school bus. Whatever band his son played in, he was always the biggest, loudest, well-known groupie. It was not unusual for him to have way too much fun and there was never a club, softball complex or football field that was too good for him to get kicked out of; everyone knew the name of "that man with the beard" by the time they left. He loved to ride his dirt bike when he was a kid, and as an adult his circle of friends grew even larger when he started riding his Harley. He said there was no better feeling than the wind in his face, but not so much the rocks on his knuckles, bugs in his teeth and jay-bird poop on his glasses. Buster's infectious smile and down to earth personality will be dearly missed by everyone that was lucky enough to know him. He is preceded in death by his father Elwood Lemuel Martin Sr., and father-in-law Walter Simeon Long Jr. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 38 years, Shirley Long Martin; three children, Jake Martin (Alicia), Jenny Martin, and Jessie Ocasio (Randy); grandchildren, Natalie, Anabelle, Ruby, and Oliver; mother, Sandra Martin; sister, Dorothy Martin; mother-in law, Terry Long; brother-in-law, Wally Long (Charlotte); sister-in-law, Melanie Lawhorne (Barry); nieces, Sandy, Taylor, Virginia, and Tara; and great-nieces, Marissa and Madelyn. Funeral services will be held at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson on Saturday, September 16, 2017. Viewing and visitation will begin at 10:30am and the service will begin at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Poquoson Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department for their dedication and support to their community, or the .
