POQUOSON - Eugene Clarence "Gene" Champ, 74, a native of Bowden, W.Va., and Poquoson resident since 1957, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 4, 2011. He was the owner/operator of Champs Towing Service since 1972.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Richard M. Champ; mother and stepfather, Pearl and Blake Armstrong; sons, Larry T. Champ and Eugene C. Champ Jr.; brother, Richard Champ; sisters, Dottie Davis and Peggy Wohlford; and in-laws, Margaret and Robert Firth.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Myrna Firth Champ; daughter, Karen Champ Jackson and husband, Michael of Yorktown; son, Daniel Ray Champ of Poquoson; grandchildren, Damion Eugene Champ, Christina Lynne Newbern, Melaine Nichole Wright and Daniel Ray Champ Jr.; sisters, Susie Little and Edna Stringer and husband, Pete, all of Mississippi; daughter-in-law, Jamie Champ; and many nieces and nephews; with special thanks to Margaret Connell and Ola Wilkinson.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, and other times at 38 Little Florida Rd., both in Poquoson. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home by Pastor Dan Cromer. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.
