Eugenia Shackelford Gillikin Obituary
POQUOSON - Eugenia "Neanie" Shackelford Gillikin passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 and entered God's kingdom. She was born August 18, 1928 in Messick, VA, the daughter of Myrtle and Criss Shackelford. She graduated from Poquoson High School and attended Madison College. Jeanie married James Edison "Red" Gillikin on August 21, 1947 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Poquoson, where she was a lifetime member. She and Red lived in several locales around the world, including Japan, Alaska, and Turkey throughout his 30 year Air Force career. They returned to live in Poquoson in 1989. Jeanie worked for various government agencies including the USAF and Chief of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. She worked at the American Red Cross, and was part owner and secretary/treasurer of Gillikin Equipment Services in Alexandria, VA prior to her retirement. She was an active member of the Ladies of the Scottish Rite and Trinity United Methodist Church. She loved to read and travel, and play bridge with the ladies group and most recently on her computer. Jeanie is survived by her husband of 65 years, Red; a son, Gary Steven Gillikin of Poquoson; one daughter, Susan Powell Lenes & husband, Peter, twin grandsons, Chad Allen and Sean William Lenes, who were her angels for the last twenty years, and a special great-granddaughter, Saylor Elizabeth Lenes, all of Poquoson; and a sister, Ann Harvey Foeste Eldredge & husband, Lee of Lilburn, GA. A memorial service will be held this Thursday, 1:00 PM, at Trinity United Methodist Church by Rev. Charles R. Stacy, followed by visitation with the family at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1294 Poquoson Ave., or to the Poquoson Volunteer Fire & Rescue, P.O. Box 2099, both in Poquoson, VA, 23662.
