Frances Annette Calia "Fran" Zabicki Obituary
Frances "Fran" Annette Calia Zabicki passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the age of 77. She was born in New York to Leonard and Constance Calia. In 1967, Fran married her husband Vic and made Gloucester County their home for 48 years. Fran was a member of The Gloucester Garden Club, an avid gardener and took great pride in maintaining her home landscape in Zanoni. She had an eye for creating beautiful flower arrangements and enjoyed submitting annual entries to The Daffodil Festival. She also had a passion for interior design and was recognized by others to be quite good at "throwing things together". Her friends, colleagues, and supervisors came to appreciate and enjoy her no nonsense, quick wit, work ethic, ability to manage people and projects, and to be always be on the lookout for her jokes and pranks. No one was immune from Fran's capers. She would recruit friends and follow employees to carry out elaborate plans to disrupt "proper" office etiquette and to bring levity to the daily office grind. She would treat all clients with dignity and respect and would demand the same in return. Fran ran a tight ship. Fran loved her family and friends deeply in her own way. She was very proud of how her son, Paul, and daughter-in-law, Angie, were guiding her four grandchildren to be kind, respectful, and to make positive contributions to their community. She and Vic kept numerous newspaper clippings following her grandchildren's academic achievements, community efforts, and sports success. She loved all of her grandchildren's unique personalities and strengths. Fran, Grandma, had a special place in her heart for her grandson Grant. She would often call on him to help her out around her home and to run whatever errands she needed even if it was a simple request for a small frosty from Wendy's. Grant never once complained when he was called on and he was always willing to give his Grandma a hand. Day or night, Grant would answer the call. Just prior to her death, Grandma and Grant were making plans to go on a trip to Hawaii next year. This dream gave her hope in the depths of her despair and we thank Grant for that special gift. Preceding her in death was her husband, Victor William Zabicki and brother, Leonard Calia. Fran is survived by her son, Paul and wife Angie and four grandchildren, MacKenzie, Bentley, Grant and Addy Grace of Yorktown. The family thanks all of Fran's special friends and caregivers for their love, help and support. A service of Christian Liturgy officiated by Reverend James Cowles will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 6262 Main St, Gloucester, VA 23061. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Tuesday, from 9 until 9:45 am at the church. In Fran's memory, the family desires memorial contributions to be given to the , Arrangements under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
