icon CHESAPEAKE - Frederick Guy Broyles, Jr., 57, of Chesapeake, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 24th with his wife by his side. He was born August 24, 1955 in Richmond, VA to the late Frederick Guy Broyles and Doris Lucas Broyles. He was raised in Chesterfield, VA where he was a member of the first graduating class of Clover Hill High School. He went on to pursue a brief career as a State Trooper before finding his passion as a Newport News Fireman. He retired in 2002 from Station 7. Fred spent his remaining years spending quality time with his wife, children and his grandchildren who he adored very much. During his last days, Fred's one last wish was to take his last ride on a fire engine to visit his "brothers" at different stations. That wish was granted by the Newport News Fire Department on Thursday, June 20, 2013. He will be remembered as Paw Paw, Daddy, brother, farmer, hero and just Fred Jr. Fred was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Jean. Left to cherish his spirit are his wife, Vikki Broyles of Chesapeake VA; his children, Beau of San Antonio, Texas, Brandon of Chesapeake VA, and Ashley of Richmond VA; step-children, Karlee Butler and Shea Thompson; 7 grandchildren, Landon and Kolton Broyles, Christian and Harley Cline, Jayda Broyles, and step-grandchildren, Makalah and Nathan Klewer; brother, Ronnie and wife, Cynthia Broyles of Atlanta, Georgia. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him dearly. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 2:00-4:00pm at Weymouth Funeral Home in Newport News. A Celebration of Life service will take place on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 10:00am at Grace United Methodist Church in Newport News with full Newport News Fire Department Honors officiated by Chaplain Marie Boyd (retired), Newport News Fire Department and Rev. Jerry Greco of Temple Baptist Church. Burial will be beside his parents at Tomahawk Baptist Church in Richmond at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Duke Cancer Institute, Office of Development DUMC 3828, Durham MC 27710. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
