George L. Willis Obituary
George L. Willis, 87, of Yorktown passed away on June 1, 2018 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Emma Myrtis; three children, George II, Gregory, and daughter Pamela; a brother, James E. Willis of Orlando, FL; two sisters-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and four granddaughters and two great granddaughters. He served 23 years in the USAF retiring in 1974 at Langley AFB after which he went to NASA retiring in 1996. He served as Boy Scout Leader to Troops 173 at Hanscom AFB, MA and Troop 138 in Ramstien AFB and sang with various Chapel Choirs. In January 1974 he joined First Baptist Church of Hampton under Rev. Seymore Gaines, he served in the choirs. After becoming a Deacon, they formulated the "Singing Deacons Quartet" singing praises at various nursing homes and churches. From its inception he served with the Nights Welcome, accommodating the homeless and downtrodden at the church. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Services will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 229 N. King Street, Hampton at 11 AM. Arrangements by Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home.
