POQUOSON - Henry Preston "Skinny" Watkins, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2014. He was a trained electrician in residential, commercial, and aviation fields, and retired in 1980 as a Technical Representative of the Contracting Office at N.A.S.A. Langley after 38 years. He was the first President of Langley Research Center American Federation of Government Employees. Skinny was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served on the Administrative Board; was past Chairman of the Board of Trustees; member and treasurer of the George W. Amos Men's Chorus; and member of United Methodist Men. He was active in semi-pro baseball, playing for Poquoson in the Tri-County League. He was a Manager for the Holloway-Moore American Legion Post #273 team; and was an organizer and manager of Poquoson Little League and Pony League. Skinny was a charter and life member of Knights of Pythias Friendship Lodge #161, serving as Secretary for 29 years; a life member of Poquoson Masonic Lodge #49, AF & AM; a member of J.O.U.A.M. Lodge, Yorktown Council #66; a member of Poquoson American Legion Post 273; was a Navy veteran of WWII; and a member of the McDonald's Coffee Club. Skinny was preceded in death by his two beautiful ladies, Sara Virginia "Ginny" Watkins, and Marvyl Carr Watkins. He is survived by his son, Terry Watkins & wife, Sheron of Poquoson; daughter, Barbara Cureton & husband, Forrest of California; sister, Margaret "Peggy" Watkins of Hampton; grandchildren, Robert Eric Fitzgerald & wife, Rattikan of Herndon, VA, Kimberly George & husband, Michael of Gloucester, Rachael Robertson & husband, Eric of Poquoson, and Preston Watkins of Poquoson; great-grandchildren, Shawn Robertson, Kaitlynn George, William George, Sara George, and Colin Fitzgerald; several nieces and nephews; his "second" family, stepchildren Judy Hahn & husband, Benji, Joni Halvorson & husband, John, and Jerry Carr, and stepgreat-grandchildren, Kari Hahn and Stephen Hahn; and his beloved constant canine companion, "Sammy". The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 8, 7-8:30 PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at his home. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, 1:30 PM, at Trinity United Methodist Church by Rev. W. Michael Nobles, Jr. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton, with Masonic Rites and Navy Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church George W.
