POQUOSON - Jesse Faye "Papa" Dryden, 82, passed away at home on Monday, March 2, 2015. He grew up in Poquoson where he began his love of the water and spent many hours at the Dryden dock with his father and brothers. The second love of his life, after his loving wife, was being on the water. He especially enjoyed fishing, and was Captain of several boats over the years, including the "Irma Virginia", the "Lesbia H", the "F.D. Crockett", the "Matco II", the "Sandy Bay", and the "Admiral". Jesse served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955, and lived in Sebastian, Florida, for 10 years and loved volunteering at the church thrift store and going to the flea market. He also loved going to bluegrass festivals and enjoying the company of his many friends. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia & Elwood Dryden; brothers, Elwood "Bubba" & wife, Marie, David, and John "Johnny"; sister, Virginia "Sarah" Carmines; and nephew, Donald Carmines. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Colleen P. Dryden; son, Greg Dryden & wife Cheryl; special loving granddaughter, Jessica Hunter; great-grandchildren, Ella and Leah; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Dryden and Mary Lee Dryden; nephews, Mike (Glenda), Nathan (Debbie), John (Vanessa) Dryden, and Earl and John (Andrea) Riggins; niece, Lisa Krejcarek (Chad); and special adopted daughter, Sharon Firth & husband Terry and their son, Brenden. Also survived by grandchildren, Amber Constein (Matt), Mike Chauvin, and Brad Chauvin (Rachel); and great-grandchildren, Olivia, Hannah, Kaitlyn, Greg, Brad, and Ryan. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 5, 6:30-8:30 PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at the home, 269 Belmont Circle, Yorktown (Coventry). The funeral service will be held Friday, 2:00 PM, at Emmaus Baptist Church, Poquoson, by Rev. Katherine T. Gray of Riverside Hospice Chaplains. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.
