Joan A. VERNALL Obituary
POQUOSON - Joan Aldridge Vernall, age 77, passed away at Mary Immaculate Hospital on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, surrounded by her family.
She was a native of Petersburg and a resident of Poquoson since 1972.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sue and Peter Aldridge; four sisters; and one brother.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dr. Raymond Vernall; and her three children, Kimberly Vernall of Newport News, Kevin Vernall of Poquoson, and Kathy Vernall Baker of Poquoson; and three grandchildren, Avery Baker, Andrew Baker, and Brieann Vernall. She is also survived by her twin sister and husband, Jean and Robert Camden of Port Orange, Fla., and a sister and husband, Sue and Warren Romans of Williamsburg.
Prior to moving to the Peninsula in 1970, she was employed in the Data Processing Division of the Virginia Department of Transportation in Richmond. She was a founding member of the Poquoson Island Players Community Theater and choreographed many of the major musicals produced during the early years of the organization.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, 836 Poquoson Avenue, Poquoson, immediately followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m., by the Rev. Michael T. Condrey. A reception will follow at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the columbarium at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, Tabb.
