JoAn Setzer Moskowitz Obituary
On Tuesday August 7, 2018 JoAn Setzer Moskowitz, 86, a native of Kidder, MO, succumbed after a long relentless fight with Alzheimer's. It is almost no exaggeration to say that she fell in love with reading from the moment of birth. Her zest for life and never-ending love of singing, dancing and all kinds of music led her to many levels of adventure, romance, education and parenthood. She graduated from St. Joseph Jr. College and Northwest Missouri State in 1958 where she earned a BS degree in education. She began her professional teaching in Monroe, IA and opted to join her longtime close friend, Bob Moskowitz in Newport News, VA. She started teaching at Warwick Jr. High School in 1960 and taught one year after that at the same school, then known as Ferguson High School. Bob and JoAn were married on June 11, 1961. JoAn gave birth to David in 1963 and Michele in 1966. She converted to Judaism and in 1997 she was honored by Temple Sinai Sisterhood for her outstanding service to Temple. Then followed years of childrearing that include nurturing several litters of puppies and community burial of a much beloved blue bird. Other activities included being a Brownie Troop Leader, 30 years of Sunday School Teaching and oceans of patience with her sports-writing husband's cross-country assignments; many of which were last minute affairs. She returned to the Newport News School System as a teacher's assistant, retiring in 2002. In recent years JoAn and her husband were active members at Congregation Emet v' Or. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30pm on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Weymouth Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers please make donations in JoAn's name to the . Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
