Joanne Pedigo Nordholt

1918 - 2017

HAMPTON - Joanne Pedigo Nordholt, 98, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. Joanne was born August 26, 1918 in Louisville, Kentucky. Her parents moved to Columbus, Ohio where she graduated from Grandview Heights High School in 1936. She then graduated from Ohio State University in 1940 where she met the love of her life, Jack Nordholt. They were married before 1941 when Jack shipped out for Guadalcanal with the Third Marine Corps Division. After Jack's return in 1945, they moved to Tiffin, Ohio where Jack joined Webster Manufacturing. Jack and Joanne enjoyed traveling with their family and friends, playing tennis and rooting for The Ohio State Buckeyes. Later they enjoyed spending time at their home in Palm Springs, California. After Jack's death in 1986, Joanne moved to Hampton, Virginia where she continued her love of tennis and gardening. Many Hampton brides had their wedding pictures taken in her yard on Chesapeake Avenue. She traveled to Palm Springs every year until her 90th birthday. Joanne was proceeded in death by her husband, John B. Nordholt Jr. and her son, John B. Nordholt, III. She is survived by her daughters, Ann N. Hunnicutt (Tom); Beth Nordholt-Hughes (Richard); her son, David I. Nordholt; 5 grandchildren, Lisa Mullikin, Jeff Martone, Jack Nordholt, Peter Nordholt and Sam Nordholt; 4 great grandchildren Megan Davis, Amanda Martone, Emma Martone and Dylan Mullikin. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Tiffin, Ohio on April 29th, for both Joanne and her son John B. Nordholt, III, who passed away February 5, 2017.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newport News, Virginia YMCA or the Tiffin, Ohio YMCA for their youth swimming programs.
