Katherine Kyle Bowden Obituary
POQUOSON - On Monday, December 9, 2013, Nellie Katherine Kyle Bowden went home to glory. Katherine, a native of Beckley, West Virginia, was a 24 year resident of Poquoson. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, James Atticus Bowden; children, Molly Osyf & husband Peter, J. Albert Bowden II, and Maggie Buchanan & husband Russell; sister, Jackie Titus & husband, Thomas; brother, Ronnie Kyle & wife, Linda; as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. She also leaves behind the lights of her life, grandchildren, Sophia, Colin, and Lillian Osyf, and Bonnie Kyle Buchanan. Katherine was a beloved member of the Mount Vernon Elementary School staff as the school's guidance counselor for almost 20 years. A Sunday school teacher at Emmaus Baptist Church, passionate daughter of Christ, best friend to many, avid gardener and reader, she loved life and especially all those who she shared it with through the years. While we take comfort in her belief in our Lord and Savior and his promise of everlasting life, our grief is profound and she will be forever missed. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 12, from 6 to 8:00 pm at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson. A Celebration of Katherine's life will follow on Friday, December 13, 4:00 pm, at Bethel Baptist Church, Tabb, by Pastor Dan Cromer., followed by a reception at the church. Burial will follow in the spring at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to MVES (the scholarship she started through the Just Say No Foundation), Safe and Drug Free Scholarship, c/o Joanne Lane, 310 Mount Vernon Dr., Yorktown, VA, 23693.
