Laura Ferguson Lotkowictz Obituary
POQUOSON - Laura Ferguson Lotkowictz passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Poquoson on November 10, 1934, and graduated from Poquoson High School in 1952. Upon graduation she started her long and inspiring civil service career. Laura was first employed as a Clerk Stenographer GS-2 at Fort Monroe VA, where she worked for three years before transferring to Fort Monmouth, NJ in 1955. She married her husband Raymond of South Amboy, NJ that year and they moved to New Jersey until their return to Virginia in 1976. Her career soared and she accepted responsibilities far beyond the duties of her positions. She was extremely fortunate in that her willingness to do so was not overlooked and she was quickly promoted into management positions. Laura was promoted to Financial Management Officer GS-14 and accepted a position as Deputy Comptroller of the Army Electronics Command. She spent the final eleven years of civil service at Fort Eustis also in the Electronics Command. Throughout her career, Laura availed herself of the opportunity to further her education and attended many government sponsored courses. She attended Brookdale College and took classes at other universities in both NJ and VA. She together with her husband, Ray, obtained their real estate licenses and opened Olde York Realty, Inc. in Yorktown. They purchased and renovated many homes and buildings, including a very large plantation home in Alberta, VA. Failing health forced her into early retirement which afforded her the opportunity to spend time caring for her grandchildren whom she adored. Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond W. Lotkowictz; parents, Henry C. and Indiana Messick Moore Ferguson; sister, Emma Lee Moore West (Jim); brother, Alfred Moore; and sister, Serena Ferguson Malmstrom (Carl). She is survived by her daughter, Justine Wilson and husband Guy; the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Alex (Alison), Coryn, and Michael; great-granddaughter, Beatrix Laura; sisters, Margaret White (Earnie) and Shirley Evans (Lemuel); and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, Nov. 27, 11:00 AM, at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, Tabb, with a reception to follow. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sjogren's Syndrome Research Foundation, , , or medical research of your choice. Online condolences to claytorrollins.com .
