POQUOSON - Leah Mercer North White, 99, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on, Sunday, May 24, 2015. Leah was a native of Wilmington, North Carolina, and a longtime resident of Poquoson. She graduated from Madison University and worked for the C & P Telephone Company. Leah went back to Old Dominion University and received her certificate to teach and enjoyed finishing her working career as a Poquoson Elementary School teacher, and was a proud member of the Poquoson Retired Teachers Association. After retirement she volunteered for five years at the Gardens at Warwick Forest. Leah was a former member of Emmaus Baptist Church, Poquoson, and Gloucester Point Baptist Church, and in later years attended Messick Baptist Church. Leah was preceded in death by her husband, Norris White. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Lee White Crandol and husband, Frank; grandchildren, Michael Lynn Bell, Scott Andrew Bell and wife, Danielle, Ty Crandol and wife Suzy, Wendy Crandol, and Jerry Bell, Jr. and wife Amy; and great-grandchildren, Logan Bell, Cody and Jack Bell. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Wednesday, May 27, 7:00 - 8:30PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, 836 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson. A Celebration of Leah's Life will be held Thursday, May 28, 11:00AM, at the funeral home by Chaplain Joe Riss. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Hampton. At other times the family will receive friends at the White residence, 50 Woodland Road, Poquoson. Memorial contributions may be made to the , 11835 Canon Blvd., Suite A 102, Newport News, VA, 23606 and to The Gardens at Warwick Forest, 1004 Old Denbigh Blvd, Newport News, VA , 23602.
