Lella Ellen Cook "Mae" Forrest Obituary
POQUOSON - Lella Ellen Cook Forrest, better known as "Mae," a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson passed away Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at Bayside of Poquoson-GLC. She was born Feb. 6, 1920 to Sarah and Clyde B. Cook. Mae was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and dedicated her life to caring for her family, friends and pets. Always known as a wonderful cook, she was happiest when she was in her kitchen. She never met a stranger and welcomed all into her family circle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 61 years, H. "Jimmy" Grey Forrest; two sisters, Hattie Cook Hogge and Frances Cook Firman.
She is survived by her daughters, Elaine F. VanDervort, and Melissa Gardy and husband, Greg; granddaughters, Cathy VanDervort Holloway and husband, Troy, Jennifer VanDervort, and Kaitlyn Gardy; great-grandchildren, Robert Forrest Holloway, Sarah Elaine Holloway, Julia Ellen Bostain, and Daniel Grey Bostain; and friends she considered her children, Joy and Gordon Helsel. She is also survived by three nieces, Nancy Hogge Barrick, Sherry Hogge Hudson and Elizabeth Forrest; and two nephews, George Hogge and Clyde Firman.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Poquoson, immediately followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m., in the church sanctuary, by the Rev. C. Eugene Meek and the Rev. Milford C. Rollins. Burial will follow at Weston Cemetery, Poquoson. At other times the family will be at 1324 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Living Our Faith Fund at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1294 Poquoson Ave.; or the Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 2099, both in Poquoson, VA 23662.
